TACKLE YOUR LAUNDRY WITH YOUR OWN HANDS

In case you just leave your family laundry expert, don’t worry, there’s a first time before becoming an expert in anything. Well, if you’re determined to handle it by yourself without our aid, then here are our tips.

Separate Your Light and Dark Clothes

The easiest way to separate clothes is to start from the beginning, look for two laundry bags which will contain about two full  loads of laundry, maximum.

Designate one of these to be for your light clothes and one for your dark clothes. When either bag fills up you know you’ll only need to do two loads to clear everything up, and by washing lights and darks seperately you’re not going to be discolouring your light clothes.

Early Preparation

Again, it is a basic step to save you from heartache later. To minimize fading of dark clothes, turn them inside out before throwing them into washing basket. Similarly, you should always empty out the pockets before throwing trousers into the washing basket, imagine the trouble of going through 20 pairs of jeans on washing day.

Treat Stains As a Priority

Stains happen, it’s part of life. No matter it’s coffee or tomato sauce, you need to take care of it as soon as possible. Before you shove the offending item into laundry basket and pretend it doesn’t exist, you should apply a stain remover or liquid detergent to the stain to increase the chance of your clothes  unscathed.

Always Read The Labels

Everything you need to know to clean your clothes properly is written on the little label inside your clothes: recommended washing temperatures, instructions for drying, ironing and general care.

Not reading the instructions can result in trashing your favourite t-shirt as you tumble dried it at the wrong heat.

The Dry Towel Technique

A simple but golden trick: if you need to tumble dry something in a hurry for a big day, place a dry towel in with the wet items. The towel will soak up the excess water and your clothes will dry more quickly.

Keep Calm and Ask for Help

Sometimes the laundry schedule grows out of your control and you need extra aid to get everything done.

Don’t feel ashamed at being overwhelmed. With a social life,  job duties and all the other chores and responsibilities you’ve got, it’s okay to slip up. You could opt to get a few loads of washing done with BONI, or you can dedicate a day to ploughing through and getting as much as possible done. These days aren’t necessarily fun, running to a washing machine on the hour to change loads.
